SHOPPERS in Penang can now order hot meals on a popular online shopping platform.

Shopee mobile app users can use it to place their food orders as ShopeeFood, Shopee’s online food delivery service, is now in Penang to help reduce queues and help save time.

The expansion fortifies ShopeeFood’s presence in major cities.

Penang is the third ShopeeFood zone, after Klang Valley and Johor Baru.

ShopeeFood and ShopeePay Malaysia marketing head Cheok Tuan Ee said the company was thrilled to launch the service in Penang to offer value, variety and convenience to users.

“Since ShopeeFood is integrated into the Shopee mobile app, users can easily use their ShopeePay mobile wallet for a seamless ordering experience.

“Consumers may benefit from discounts and promotions from the platform and skip long queues at eateries by ordering for the food to be delivered to their doorsteps.

“ShopeeFood merchants can also access our database to reach new customers,” he said during the launch at the Coco Island food court.

Cheok said smaller merchants would find the service helpful with having their physical outlets featured online to boost sales as the country’s economic activities transitioned to endemic phase.

In conjunction with the launch, he said ShopeeFood was offering a free-delivery promotion with no minimum spend.

Penang domestic and international trade committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain, who was present at the launch, said the Covid-19 pandemic over the past two years had sped up digital transformation and usage of ewallet systems.

He said ShopeeFood’s presence in Penang was welcomed as another platform to support that advancement.

“People are adopting usage of such digital and online means for commercial purposes and it is timely for ShopeeFood to step in.

“The significance of food delivery services was apparent during the movement control order as many people were restricted from going out or dining in.

“Food delivery and epayment services have helped many to stay safe at home and reduce physical contact,” he said.

Presently, the platform’s merchants include renowned hawker stalls from key areas such as George Town, Ayer Itam, Gelugor, Tanjung Bungah, Bayan Lepas and Jelutong, as well as outlets like Nasi Kandar Pelita, Mee Goreng Bos!, Penang Chendul, and Pasembor.

ShopeeFood also offers an array of choices from popular brands such as McDonald’s, Hoshino Coffee, US Pizza and Haagen-Dazs.

Penang app users will be able to enjoy the Super Deals promotion until June 20.

Among offers are free deliveries, discounts up to 50% and flash sales up to 20%.

Merchants participating in the Super Deals promotions include Zus Coffee, Chatime, Boat Noodle and Yi Ke Shu.

Upon checkout, users just need to select ShopeePay as their preferred payment method to claim vouchers for the deals.
