THE private sector and local folk need to help promote Perak’s tourism industry, says state tourism committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi.

She said this would attract more visitors and spur the local economy.

“We want local businesses to continue to thrive.

“Everyone needs to play a part to ensure that local tourist destinations are the top choices for tourists visiting Perak,” she said after launching the “Travel to DUN Jelapang” booklet at the Papan community hall in Batu Gajah last week.

On the launch of the booklet, she lauded the initiative by Jelapang assemblyman Cheah Pou Hian and the local community for their effort.

“It is a good initiative by the grassroots community leaders and local businesses.

“We will help distribute the booklets and upload on our digital platforms,” said Nolee Ashilin.

She said Jelapang was an important place for the Ipoh, Greater Ipoh and Kinta Valley Geopark tourism clusters.

“Smaller attractions like Papan town, with its history, heritage and popular eateries, will add value to the whole tourism industry,” she added.

Among the attractions promoted in the booklet are Kledang Hill, First Garden night market, Guan Yin Temple in Papan, Istana Raja Bilah, Jin De Dian Taoist Temple, Papan Herbal Garden and Papan Recreational Forest Reserve.

Cheah said only 5,000 copies of the booklet were printed for distribution.

“We hope to get more assistance from the state government to expand the tourism industry in my constituency.

“With more allocations, we can have better attractions,” he said.
