After a two-year break, Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) held a Hari Raya open house which drew over 2,000 guests, including council staff and residents.
MPKj president Najmuddin Jemain said it felt good to celebrate Raya as a Malaysian family.
“This event is not only a way to show our appreciation for council employees, it also helps to create a good bond with the community,” he said at the event held at Menara MPKj last week.
Guests were treated to food prepared by MPKj staff from 11 departments, including nasi tomato, satay, kuih, ice cream, poori and vadai.
Landscape department assistant director Faizol Hatzri said it was MPKj’s tradition to allow staff from each department to set up a booth and decide on the kind of food to prepare.
“This year, our department decided on a Penang theme and we even assigned a chef from Penang to prepare the state’s signature fried kuey teow and mee goreng mamak,” said Faizol.
Resident Subaseni Gunasekaran, 39, is a frequent guest of the council’s open houses.
“This open house is an opportunity for Malaysians to nurture closer relationships with each other,” said Subaseni.
Various activities like contests for the best outfit of the day and most attractive stall were also arranged to create a livelier environment.
