Creative English writing contest for students on June 25


SOUTHERN University College’s English division is organising the Southern Creative Writing Competition which is open to upper secondary school students in four districts of Johor.

The university college’s main objectives in holding the competition are to raise awareness of the importance of English in Malaysia and to promote the creative use of the language in its written form.

The competition is open to all Form Five and Six students who are currently studying in public, Chinese independent, private or international schools in Johor Baru, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Pontian.

The competition will be held at the university college at 9am on June 25.

The genre is “flash fiction” which is defined as a very short story.

Participants may choose from five themes that will be announced on the day of the competition.

The word count for each submission is between 450 and 500 words.

A total of 20 winners will be awarded cash prizes and certificates.
