PETALING Jaya residents received free medical screening at a one-day health camp held at the Community Baptist Church in SS2, Petaling Jaya.

The camp was organised by the Kampung Tunku assemblyman’s service centre, SS2 Selatan Residents Association, Touch Community and the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Zone 8 councillor.

Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Wei said the initiative was aimed at providing free health care services to all, especially senior residents in the area who may have mobility issues.“As this church is an important part of the community, we thought of holding the free health camp here so people can get several health care services under one roof,” she added.

MBPJ councillor Billy Wong said more than 100 people, mainly senior citizens, received physical examinations at the event.

“The senior citizens are our target group for this health service because they have less mobility.”

One of those who came for the health screening was SS2 resident Elizabeth Khoo, 71.

“I got both free medical screening and consultation in one place. This initiative has benefited me as I didn’t know where to find a one-stop centre for an overall health check-up.

“The volunteers were really helpful and I felt good being at the health camp.”

The health care services at the camp included blood pressure checks, blood glucose scans, cholesterol tests, body mass index (BMI) scans, body fat checks (BIA), eye scans, ear and hearing scans and bone scans (chiropractor).

The health partners for this initiative were Assunta Hospital, Soundlife Hearing, KPJ Centre for Sight and MBA Chiropractic.

In addition, Lim’s service centre set up a booth where people could register for various Selangor government schemes.

“We are planning to organise more free health camps like this in different areas within my constituency.

“We want to provide more specialised health consultation to people,” Lim said.
