‘Turn Gawai Bazaar site into Dayak food court’

THE pavilion of Permai Lake Garden, the site of Sibu Gawai Bazaar, should be turned into a Dayak food court.

Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu chairman Chambai Lindong, who proposed this at the closing of Gawai Bazaar, said he would write to Sibu Municipal Council on this matter.

“With this food court, the Dayak community will have a permanent place to do business.

“So far, Sibu does not have a Dayak food court, unlike some other parts of the state.

“This food court could also attract foreign visitors.

“It can also be a landmark and symbol of the Dayak community here,” he said.

Chambai had brought up the proposal for a Dayak food court several times before, but due to the unavailability of land and a proper site, the project was put aside.

“However, after we implemented Sibu Gawai Bazaar at Taman Tasik Permai, this place is very suitable due to the many empty shoplots.

“Instead of leaving it idle, the council should allow us to set up the food court here,” he said. — By ANDY CHUA
