Selangor government expects around 60,000 students to benefit from its free tuition programme by the end of next year.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said “Program Tuisyen Rakyat Selangor” would widen its reach in line with the state’s digitalisation efforts.

“In 2018, about 6,000 to 7,000 students were involved in physical tuition classes, and now there are between 8,000 and 10,000.

“The state has collaborated with Selangor Education Department in getting teachers to create content for the online tuition programme.

“Selangor Menteri Besar Incorporated has injected RM7mil for this purpose,” he said at the state Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration in Petaling district at Padang Awam MBSJ in Puchong.

For the first time, the Selangor government has organised Raya celebrations in all nine districts separately, from May 15 to 21, which was attended by some 60,000 people.

Amirudin said Selangor learned many lessons in the last two years, including not to only look at improving service delivery but be prepared to face challenges such as a pandemic, natural disaster, economic crisis or political instability.

He was grateful that the state has continued to enjoy peace, unity and stability throughout the pandemic, which has helped in the execution of targeted programmes against the coronovirus and its aftermath.
