Sibu cycling event to celebrate state’s liberty

A Sarawak Day cycling event will take place on July 23 to celebrate the state’s freedom from colonial rule in 1963.

Dudong SUPP Youth Wing and Cygnus Cycling Club are organising the event that will start and finish at Sibu town square.

At a press conference, Youth Wing chief Yiing Sy Hung said “Cycling for Health, Cycling for Environment, Cycling for the Future” was the theme for the event, which was limited to 500 cyclists and covers 10km.

“We accept participants from all age groups but children below 12 must be accompanied by their parents or guardians.

“Those aged 13 to 18 must have the consent of their parents to take part,” he said.

Participation fee is RM75 per person and every cyclist gets a free cycling jersey.

There are also lucky draw prizes worth RM10,000 to be won.

Cygnus Cycling Club representative Josh Law said a QR code would be used for participants to register online.

“All participants must prepare basic safety equipment including bicycle helmets, headlights and rear tail flash as well as shoes,” he said.

Law also appealed to other road users to look out for these cyclists during the event. — ANDY CHUA
