A CONTRACTOR is unhappy that the brown leather sofa he sent back to the seller for repairs in February still has white spots at the stitches and tubing area.
Claimant A. Rajendran said the colour of the sofa he bought on March 7 last year started to fade around the stitching and tubing after three months.
He paid RM7,900 for the L-shaped sofa which he bought from a furniture showroom in Tampoi, Johor.
In February, Johor Baru Consumer Claims Tribunal president Lee Chee Thim had ordered the respondent to bear the cost of transporting the sofa to Kuala Lumpur for repairs and also extended by another year the warranty which ended in March 2022.
“However, three weeks after I received the sofa, white spots reappeared,” said Rajendran when met outside the tribunal.
He filed the case again as he was dissatisfied with the repairs.
The respondent’s representative said the company had sold about 50 similar sofas over the years but this was the first time that such a problem had occurred, adding that it was willing to go to the claimant’s house to touch up the spots.
“However, we have to wait until the leather cleaner is available,’’ he said.
He added that it was not advisable for the claimant to touch up the spots himself as the job required an expert.
Lee ordered the respondent to carry out the necessary repairs.
