Lorries and workers deployed to clear trash backlog

TWENTY-four lorries and 131 workers were deployed to help address the rubbish collection backlog in Manjoi and Meru in Ipoh, Perak.

Majuperak Utilities Management Sdn Bhd (MUMSB) said the mounting rubbish problem would be resolved immediately.

The company said an initial workforce of 19 vehicles and 102 workers were sent in initially.

“MUMSB provided an additional patrol team, five lorries and 29 workers to resolve complaints in areas which have probably been left out,” the company said in a statement yesterday.

Ipoh mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin was earlier reported to have said that rubbish collection operations had been disrupted around Ipoh city due to labour shortage.

According to Rumaizi, several of the concessionaire’s employees had resigned to join the construction industry.

He said the quantity of waste generated had seen a threefold increase due to Hari Raya hence worsening the situation. — Bernama
