EHAILING bus booking app, Kumpool, has expanded its service to the Kampung Tunku constituency starting May 10.

For a limited time, it will provide 10,000 first trips for free to Petaling Jaya residents until July 11.

Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Wei said this collaboration was carried out due to public demand.

“I have received multiple requests from people asking to expand Kumpool service to the constituency after the launch of Kumpool Bukit Gasing in April,” said Lim.

She was speaking at the launch of the service which was held at a coffeeshop in Kampung Tunku.

Also present were Kumpool head Goh Chun Hean and Petaling Jaya Coffeeshop Association secretary Cheah Poo Kuang.

Lim said 59 stops were part of the van’s route that included light rail transit (LRT) stations, residential and commercial areas, schools as well as houses of worship.

“One of the notable stops is along Jalan 22/49 in Section 22, where there is no bus service.

“By collaborating with Kumpool, I believe that the gap of accessibility can be filled for Section 22 residents,” she noted.

Kumpool is a subsidiary of Causeway Link, a public bus company based in Johor Baru.

Goh said the affordable and convenient service was what differentiated Kumpool from other ehailing services.

“We have made our stops very convenient, where each stop is no more than 500m from each other.

“This enables people in need, like the elderly, to go to their desired places more conveniently,” he added.

Cheah said the convenient transportation service would help boost business for shops on the van’s route.

In Petaling Jaya, there will be two Kumpool vans operating from 8am to 8pm.

The transport service requires passengers to book their trips through an app, while payment can be made via cash or ewallet.

From May 11 to July 11, residents can ride around the Petaling Jaya area for only RM1. After July 11 a flat rate fare will be charged.

The collaborative initiative is hoped to stimulate the local economy, by providing transport to the commercial areas of Petaling Jaya. For details, go to https://kumpool.com.my/index.php
