Shahidan and deputy to use their own funds to help Putrajaya's hardcore poor

FEDERAL Territories Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim and his deputy Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias are ready to take a pay cut to help the hardcore poor in Putrajaya.

Shahidan said there were 19 families identified with household income below RM1,250, which was categorised as hardcore poor.

He said some households were running on just RM750 monthly income.

“Unlike Kuala Lumpur where the hardcore poor get much help, there are not many agencies or organisations that look into the welfare of such families in the administrative capital.

“So my deputy and I have agreed to step in and make personal contributions if needed to help these families until the authorities find ways to help them improve their financial situation,” he told a press conference at Menara Seri Wilayah in Putrajaya on Thursday (Jan 27).

He said the Ministry was looking at helping the hardcore poor set up small businesses by providing them with capital and business licences to kick-start their own ventures and increase their income.
