IT was a night filled with nostalgia and joy when some 40 former students from the 1968 batch of the then La Salle Primary School Penang gathered at a hotel in Penang.
They reminisced about the good times at the school which they left in 1976 after completing Form Three.
They also exchanged stories about the pranks they played while in school.
La Salle 68 president M. Jegathesan said in his speech that this was a rare gathering for the former students as they had not met for nearly 45 years.
“This batch of 1968 students have established themselves as good and caring individuals as they have upheld the virtues and teachings of the French La Sallian brothers.
“Being courageous is a key spirit of the school’s founding fathers as they imparted their guidance to us during our growing years,” he said, adding that this had helped them face the world with bravery.
Also present at the gathering were former principal John Conceicao and former teachers Chew Gaik Cheng and Billy Oh.
Conceicao, 89, said he was very happy to meet former students who have contributed much to society.
Oh, 81, said the success of the former students was a clear indicator of the success of education in the country.
“It is even more heartwarming when they remember us and invite us to this gathering,” he said.
Later, there was a slideshow.
