THE Kompleks A parking lot in Petaling Jaya New Town now uses the Touch ‘n Go payment system as well as the Smart Selangor parking app.
The option to pay by cash is no longer available.
The public must now use these cashless options when parking there, said Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran when he visited the complex yesterday.
“The cashless payment system will be installed in more areas that have council amenities, such as parking places,” said Rajiv.
He added that the over 30-year-old complex had undergone improvements such as installation of lifts. For decades, the ground floor of this multistorey carpark was reserved for Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) staff.
However, this year the ground floor was opened to the public.
Section 6 Rukun Tetangga chairman Rajesh Mansukhlal said the council must provide motorists with more options for payment at the carpark.
He urged the council to retain the cash payment mode for some time.
“People must be given the option to use Touch ‘n Go, Smart Selangor parking app or pay by cash.
“The New Town area has many elderly visitors and not everyone is familiar with cashless payment systems.“There may be some who are unaware of the change in payment mode and will need to reverse their vehicles out because they are not equipped with any of the cashless options. “This may cause difficulty if there are vehicles queueing behind them.
“I suggest the council allow other payment options for some time before going fully cashless at Kompleks A,” he said.
The Kompleks A parking charges are RM1.50 an hour from Monday to Sunday, 7am to 6pm. The fee after 6pm is RM1.50 per entry.
The council’s monthly pass is RM150.
The five-storey building has 420 parking bays.
The ground floor has 69 parking bays with two reserved for the disabled.
