IN conjunction with the second anniversary of Seberang Prai as a city and World Mental Health Day on Oct 10, the Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) has launched the Mind Your Mind (Teroka Minda) application in an effort to address depression among staff.

Council mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said the online application was developed with the cooperation of the council’s Health Services Department plus Information Technology and Communication Department.

“This app is aimed at identifying the risk of depression, anxiety and stress among council staff in the post-pandemic phase,” he said during a press conference at MBSP’s headquarters located in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam in Penang.

The app uses Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale 21 (dass-21) screening instruments and serves as an early screening method for staff members’ mental health issues.

It can be accessed via https://dass.mbsp.gov.my/dass/

Rozali said the app had 21 questions in statement form with four choices of answers, which are ‘not at all, slightly, strongly, and very strongly’ (tidak langsung, sedikit, banyak, sangat banyak).

“MBSP personnel who use the app have to pick the answers carefully as each of the answers gives an indication to their own mental status.

“They have to answer honestly and do not need to worry because there is no right or wrong answer to the given questions.

“The final score of the answers will be automatically calculated based on the response given.

“The score based on interpretation will be shown in three mental health components, which are stress, anxiety and depression,” added Rozali.

He said the mental health test was compulsory for all 3,983 MBSP personnel.

The results will be analysed by a special team under the Health Services Department.

“This initiative is part of the council’s proactive strategy to ensure that all staff members have high awareness of the state of their mental health.

“We also wish to protect their welfare,” he said.

The database for the app can only be accessed by a system administrator and personal details will be protected and confidential.
