Penang's Kuantan Road market reopens on Sunday (Oct 3) after being closed for two weeks

THE Kuantan Road market in George Town, Penang which was closed last month, reopened on Sunday (Oct 3).

The Penang Island City Council said the market resumed operations based on strict standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the National Security Council and Health Ministry.

"The council will continue to monitor and conduct spot-checks from time to time to ensure that controls in the market are properly implemented so that the safety and health of traders, stall assistants and the public are not neglected," it said in a statement on Sunday.

The Kuantan Road market was closed on Sept 18 after nine Covid-19 cases were detected there to keep a possible wave of infection from affecting the area.

The council also reminded the public to abide by SOP at all times.

It said individuals with a high-risk status in their MySejahtera application are not allowed to enter the market compound or food court.
