TWO Malaysians did their country proud when they won the TienTe Lee Biomedical Foundation – YSP SouthEast Asia Holding Bhd (TTLBF-YSPSAH) Excellent Scientific Paper Award 2021.

Mohd Saufi Harun of the Non-Destructive Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Research Centre, Universiti Teknologi Mara and Ng Shie Yin of Universiti Malaya’s Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department submitted scientific papers for the award.

The stringent judging panel regarded their scientific papers to be of high calibre with distinctive level of validity, originality and verifiability.

TienTe Lee Biomedical Foundation (TTLBF) Dr Lee Fang Yu made the announcement that the TTLBF-YSPSAH Excellent Scientific Paper Award 2021 was awarded to Mohd Saufi and Ng.

Their scientific papers were titled Advancing Skin Delivery of α-tocopherol and γ-tocotrienol for Dermatitis Treatment via nNanotechnology and Microwave Technology and Active Targeted Ligand-aza-BODIPY Conjugate for Near-infrared Photodynamic Therapy in Melanoma, respectively.

TienTe Lee Biomedical Foundation was founded on Aug 5, 2004 by the late Tien Te Lee, the founder of Yung Shin Pharm. Ind. Co. Ltd (YSP) in Taiwan, with the aim to promote public understanding of biomedical technology and products and to award professionals devoted to its development.

The foundation offers the Excellent Scientific Paper Award with the aim of inspiring young scientists to engage in cross-disciplinary research collaborations thus advancing biomedical research, discovery and technology.

The award nomination was opened from March 1 to April 15 during which the foundation received numerous nominations from several academic institutions.

The judging process was from May to July and the winners were announced in August to coincide with National Day month.

Winners of the award each received US$3,000 (RM12,600) cash, a trophy, a certificate and a return ticket from Kuala Lumpur to Taipei with accommodation and a fully-arranged programme.

Winners will also receive a special invitation to visit YSP’s state-of-the-art pharmaceuticals manufacturing plant in Taichung.

TTLBF is calling for all Malaysian scientists who aspire to contribute to the development of life sciences to take part in the TTLBF-YSPSAH Excellent Scientific Paper Award 2022, details of the award nomination requirement will be announced soon.
