IN AN exhilarating Malaysia Day celebration filled with patriotism and in the spirit of the “Malaysia Family” concept, over 20 Fire and Rescue Department personnel got together for a drill at the Perak Road fire station in George Town, Penang.
The firefighters participated in activities like abseiling and flying fox, which had them in high spirits as they cheered on one another.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department director Saadon Mokhtar said the celebration was held to showcase patriotism, unity and discipline in line with the Malaysian Family concept that was promoted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“We decided to hold a moderate celebration this year in keeping with the necessary standard operating procedures concerning Malaysia Day celebrations.
“Since we were unable to hold a big do with all our Fire and Rescue personnel statewide, we opted for a simple one here at the Perak Road fire station.
“We hope with this celebration, everyone will be motivated to soldier on in our battle against the Covid-19 pandemic as we reach out to help one another,” he said during a press conference after their early celebration last Tuesday.
Meanwhile, state Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Mohd Hafiz Hafizal Timaradin said four personnel in the state had tested positive for Covid-19.
“These personnel have since recovered and ended their quarantine on Sept 11 after going into isolation on Sept 1.
“Fortunately, all of our personnel in the state have been fully vaccinated.
“Only two other personnel were under quarantine as they were close contacts of Covid-19 positive cases and ended their quarantine period on Sept 20,” he said.
