Food baskets for 660 deserving students in Sibu

GOVERNMENT aid programmes have played an important role during the Covid-19 pandemic, where economic and social problems are prevalent, especially among rural folk.

Bawang Assan SUPP chief Senator Robert Lau (pic) said this during a presentation of food baskets to 660 deserving students in the constituency in Sarawak.

The students were from SJK (C) Chung Hua and Chung Hua Kindergarten in Sibu town, SJK (C) Ing Guong, SJK (C) Kwong Hua, Tadika Methodist Ching Ang and SMK Kwong Hua.

Special allocations from the Federal Government were given through senators.

“Almost half of the primary school and kindergarten pupils in the town area are from families who migrated to Sibu town from rural areas.

“This shows the magnitude of rural-urban migration,” Lau noted.
