SARAWAK police have made numerous arrests this year in their ongoing crackdown on illegal activities such as gambling, vice and gangsterism.

State Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department head Senior Asst Comm Datuk Muhammed Hasbullah Ali said the arrests were made in various areas, from Kuching in the southern zone to Miri in the north.

“We have achieved many successes. Arrests were made in Kuching, Padawan, Bintulu and Miri.

“We directed all district police chiefs to continue with the operation,” he said after presenting appreciation certificates to team leaders and special assistants involved in Op Benteras.

This month-long operation was carried out by all district police stations and coordinated by the Sarawak police.

The operation was spearheaded by the state police chief, he said.

SAC Hasbullah said it was not easy to carry out the operation due to lack of manpower and the state’s topography.

Among those present at the presentation ceremony were Sibu district police chief Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, Deputy Supt Collin Babat and Sibu Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division head Deputy Supt Ariffin Baha.
