THE National Association of Malaysian Life Insurance Fieldforce and Advisers (Namlifa), Sibu Chapter have come to the aid of 360 poor families with dry food donation.

The first distribution of the food supplies was conducted on Aug 22, and the effort will continue for three months until October.

Namlifa Sibu chairman Pang Chui Hua said each month, food aid would be given to 120 families.

“We gave out food aid to 120 families in August.

“We are conducting distributions every week. So each month, the recipients will be different persons,” he said.

Recipients, he added, were from among the hardcore poor, including persons with disabilities and single parents.

Each family received RM150 worth of food items.

“The money comes from 10 committee members. Some of the donations are also from their friends.

“There is also a company which is contributing canned food,” said Pang.

The recipients’ name list was obtained from a Methodist church, which also looks after the needs of the poor in town.

Pang said Namlifa was also looking at starting a soup kitchen. — By ANDY CHUA
