To get ready for the reopening of its departmental store soon, Gama Supermarket and Departmental Store in Penang shut for a day to undergo full sanitisation.

Its senior marketing manager Leong Hau Soon said the store engaged a sanitisation company to conduct thorough cleaning.

“In view of the rising number of Covid-19 cases in Penang, the management felt this move was necessary,” she said when contacted on Wednesday.

Leong said they were planning to reopen their departmental store which had been closed for nearly three months.

“We hope the thorough sanitisation will make our customers feel safe to return.

“Even so, we encourage them to use our personal shopper service or visit our online stores to decrease face-to-face contact.

“For both our personal shopper and online services, customers can opt for self pick-up here or home delivery.

“As for customers visiting our supermarket here, we urge them to plan ahead and come prepared with their shopping list.

“This will help them shop and check out quickly which will reduce face-to-face interaction.

“We urge customers to be mindful and not stay too long at our premises.

“We also encourage them to shop online. We will gather their groceries for them to drop by and pick up.”

On the reopening of their departmental store, Leong said they would wait and choose the right time.

“We will reopen once we have sorted out all the angles of the standard operating procedures and safety areas for customers.”
