THE spirit of Merdeka filled the air at a quaint coastal village in Pengkalan Weld, Penang.

The village atmosphere was filled with an air of patriotism as the three roads within the small neighbourhood where generations have called home – Lebuhraya Merdeka, Lintang Merdeka and Jalan Merdeka – were decorated with Jalur Gemilang flags.
