Residents want more details about upcoming EMCO at Jalan Pandan Indah

AMPANG: While the enhanced movement control order on the rest of Selangor has been lifted, residents in the Pandan Indah locality are in a state of confusion with the targeted lockdown set to kick in here at midnight on Saturday (July 18).

Residents said that the announcement that the government would be enforcing enhanced MCO at Jalan Pandan Indah from July 18 to 31 was too vague as it covered a huge area.

Taman Pandan Indah resident Dawn Jesudason, 45, said that Jalan Pandan Indah led to several housing estates, flats, factory lots and a commercial area - with tens of thousands of people living here.

“The road mentioned stretches for several kilometres and is a main road that connects to two highways.

“While we understand the lack of details to ensure that people do not flee the area, they should have at least made it clear on what kind of EMCO is going to be implemented.

“Would it be like the one we have had the past two weeks in Selangor where we could still go out to buy groceries and for work? Or would it be like the ones in Kuala Lumpur with barbed wires around the place,” she said, adding that this could cause people to panic buy.

Dawn added that many of her neighbours were unsure if they needed to stock up on essentials as well as make other work arrangements.

Another resident, who only wanted to be known as Yong, said he was concerned if he would be able to travel out for work on Monday.

“I have to travel to my workplace in Kuala Lumpur and I am unsure if we will be allowed to even with the approval letter from the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti).

“I do not understand why some flats or apartments were specifically mentioned for enhanced MCO, but here it is only the road that was named,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ampang Jaya Municipal Council president Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said they were not informed about the exact locations to be placed under enhanced MCO.

“This is to prevent people from leaving the area before the targeted lockdown,” he said when contacted.

Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that several areas in Selangor would be place under enhanced MCO from July 18 - 31.

For Selangor, Ismail Sabri said the localities involved were Damai Apartment in Damansara, Jalan Pandan Indah in Ampang, Jalan Batu Nilam, Bandar Bukit Tinggi in Klang and Taman Samudera in Batu.
