A CROWDFUNDING project has been set up to help a family whose house in Teluk Intan, Perak was razed by a fire.
Media manager A. Saravanan, 33, the brother of A. Vimala (pic), whose house was burnt down last Wednesday, has created the fundraiser on GoGetFunding to help the family sustain themselves.
“Pretty much everything was destroyed in the fire and nothing could be salvaged including their clothes, food and home appliances,” he said when contacted.
“Our family is trying to help out as much as we can and raise enough to help them for a month.
“It is a trying time for her family and we humbly ask for a donation of any amount to help them rebuild their house,” he added.
Vimala’s family was reportedly saved by their pet puppy Anandaveli, that had alerted her to the fire at their single-storey terrace house in Eastern Garden.
The puppy had repeatedly tugged at Vimala’s hair and clothes to wake her up.
Saravanan, who is based in Kuala Lumpur, said Vimala was the sole breadwinner of her family.
“Her husband is semi-paralysed and unable to work.
“Two of her children are working part-time while another is still studying,” he said.
“We understand that a local state assemblyman has also agreed to help her find accommodation.”
Vimala and her family are now staying with a relative in Teluk Intan.

The fundraiser ends on July 10.
Separately, Pasir Bedamar assemblyman RN Terence Naidu said he would create a trust fund to assist the family in rebuilding their home.
“I will update the list of donors on my Facebook page daily.
“We estimate the house repair cost at RM60,000,” he said, adding that the state had also agreed to put the family in a temporary home.
“Any excess from the donations collected will go towards an animal shelter here in Teluk Intan,” said Terence.
