Pengerang Municipal Council (MPP) is providing food aid to 100 single mothers, the elderly and the disabled.
MPP president Fizwan Mohd Rashidi said the recipients were Zone 12 Teluk Sengat residents, whose livelihoods have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and movement control order.
“This is the first location to receive the aid during this round of MCO,” he said, adding that a similar programme was held during the MCO in January.
“Priority is given to those who are under home quarantine,” he said.
Fizwan added that the programme was conducted in collaboration with the Kota Tinggi District Welfare Department.
Fizwan also said that 17 officers from the police, Health Ministry and MPP have been tasked with checking on standard operation procedure compliance in the municipality.
“We will monitor and ensure SOP compliance at all premises and agencies,” he added.
Meanwhile, MPP Zone 12 Teluk Sengat councillor Mesran Tukiman said the one-off food aid was expected to be continued and extended to those really in need.
“This aid is given based on our data on those placed in home quarantine, and we will be on standby if there are additional needs.
“Each recipient was given RM100 worth of food aid,” he added. — By REMAR NORDIN
