IMPATIENT elderly Covid-19 vaccine recipients did not keep to the schedule, causing overcrowding at the vaccination centre in the Sibu Indoor Stadium.
About 840 senior citizens were selected for their first dose, but many who were scheduled to receive it in the afternoon turned up earlier and the subsequent crowding meant physical distancing could not be practised.
In his Sibu Covid-19 update via social media, Sibu Divisional Disaster Manage-ment Committee coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee said the chaotic situation would not have happened if the senior citizens had followed the vaccination schedule.
“I received many messages on the disorderly situation at the stadium from various people, including children of the recipients and local elected representatives.
“They complained that there was no social distancing among the recipients, ” he said.
The Nangka assemblyman said the vaccination appointment was arranged by the Health Ministry to include 150 recipients every hour.
“However, hundreds of them arrived at the same time, ” he said.
He advised future recipients to exercise patience and to keep to their schedule to avoid a “stadium cluster”.
“If your appointment is at noon, arriving 15 minutes earlier is good enough, ” he said.
Dr Annuar added that the names of latecomers would not be struck off the recipient list, but only those who did not show up at all.
