Calling inspiring women nominees for glamour award

THE Women Glamour Award 2021 aims to create a platform for ordinary women to rise up and inspire others with their capabilities and perseverance.

The award event themed ‘Her Power’ will be held at Penang Performing Arts Centre in Straits Quay at 4pm on Aug 8.

Organiser and founder Jess Mok said the award would see women nominated in five categories — homemaker, community contribution, young inspiring women, entrepreneur and business women.

“Homemaker is a special category for housewives and working ladies and for the young inspiring women category, nominees must be between 18 and 35 years old, while for the other categories, they should be 18 and above, ” she said at a press conference to announce the award.

Mok said each category would see three winners walking away with a trophy each.

She said that the event which was initiated in 2018, is aimed at creating a platform for ordinary women to come on stage to share and showcase their experiences and for their voice to be heard.

“We want more women out there to know and realise that they are not alone and their experiences can become their strength, ” she said.

Mok added that the event this year, which is supported by the state government, has Penang social development committee chairman Chong Eng as adviser.

She said that to be chosen to vie for the award, each nominee would have to submit a 500-word essay written by the person who nominates them and the nominees would be charged a processing fee of RM300 each.

“The finalists for each category will be selected based on the essays submitted and this will be followed by a five-minute video presentation by each finalist where they will share their inspiring stories, ” she explained.

Chong Eng, who was present at the press conference, said she was happy to be chosen as adviser, adding that the event breaks the old school of thought to highlight the extraordinary strength of women.

“The significance of such award is not only confined to personal achievements and public contributions but also for the society to focus on women who strive and lead by example to pursue their dreams and shine, ” she said.

She also welcomed and encouraged more such platforms for women to be organised so that women who started at the bottom, could also rise up and be a role model in society.
