Evoking a homely feeling for Raya

AMAN Central in Alor Setar, Kedah, is bringing the kampung life to shoppers with its Mai! Balik Kampung theme this Hari Raya.

The Centre Court and North Atrium have been transformed into an authentic ‘kampung’ complete with a traditional house amid illustrated village surroundings, classic elements and lush greenery.

Nostalgia abounds as shoppers relive happy childhood memories of their carefree kampung life as they welcome Ramadan and gather to celebrate Syawal.

There’s nothing like getting to spend time with family members and celebrating the festive season together but the pandemic has put a stop to this for many with the interstate travel ban.

So, this year’s traditional theme is like a warm embrace of home for those unable to ‘balik kampung’ for Hari Raya with Aman Central becoming the ‘kampung’ for them.

Senior marketing communications manager Ken Chin said the decoration is centred on the traditional wooden Malay kampung house to reflect the much simpler and blissful life of villagers.

“As this holy month teaches us about appreciation, this is to remind all that sometimes the simple things in life are what people should value most.

“Ramadan is also a time for fostering a strong sense of community and camaraderie, ” he added.

Adding vibrancy to the beautiful kampung scene are blooming pink flowers and verdant plants, roosters and chickens running loose and tweeting birds in a rattan cage.

Behind the house is the typical Raya eve scene of villagers cooking lemang over an open fire and stirring dodol while gigantic lanterns illuminate the sky.

All these would definitely make for plenty of Instagrammable moments to further brighten up your festive celebrations!

And adding to the merriment are two Ramadan Bazaars for you to ‘shop till you drop’.

At the Central Atrium, the tenants comprise Tomei, Gio Fabrics, Duchess by CPG, Jannahnoe, Celynda, Respack Medicare, ZH.CO, G Ayu Collection, Enara Empire, Fitrah Couture, and GM & Sons Carpet.

Over at the North Atrium are Golden Screen Cinemas, ZAIRA, De Impiana Ladies, Ceritera Niaga, NIMS, Femmes Cookies, Shah’s Boutique, PlantPlanner, Puteri Muliati, Haoli Trading, Medina, Yusz’ Collection, Wenna Exclusive, Aranni Exclusive and Mew Market Raya.

The launching of Mai! Balik Kampung by Mentri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and Aman Central owner Datuk Sonny Ho will take place at 6pm on Labour Day tomorrow.

Shoppers will get to experience the festive vibes at their leisure with the many cultural performances, contests and redemptions lined up.

Show off your best pose of the festive decor at the Mai! Balik Kampung Photo Contest.

Twenty lucky winners will each receive RM50 HLA cash vouchers and RM50 preloaded Touch & Go cards. Follow Aman Central on Instagram and upload your photo with the hashtags #ACContest #ACRaya #BalikKampung.

Spend RM350 and above in a single receipt to redeem a set of exclusive Raya packet while purchases of RM3,388 and above (maximum three combined receipts on the same day) come with a limited edition mug and a set of vacuum seal glass container.

Both redemptions are limited to one unit per shopper while stocks last and on a first come, first served basis.

Not to be missed is the Build My Masjid Workshop at the Central Atrium on May 7. Spend a minimum RM100 in a single receipt to book a seat.

Performance highlights include Qasidah (Islamic music), Gamelan (traditional music made up predominantly of percussive instruments) and Malay modern dance.

Enjoy traditional dances by Graceful Movement, learn the history and witness the mesmerising art of silat and savour the sweet melodies of Raya music via Irama Raya.
