THE Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) has allocated 15,000 portable face mask holders for staff and guests attending its programmes.

Council mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said the move would prevent contamination from either the Covid-19 virus or other agents.

“The holders provide proper temporary storage, especially when a person wants to remove his or her face mask during meals.

“We will soon supply these covers to our staff and guests, ” he said at a press conference held at council headquarters in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

Rozali said the holders would also help to extend the lifespan of a face mask in a way, as many a time, the public would just discard their face masks when they accidentally fall to the ground or floor for fear of contamination.

“The holder will help people keep their face mask properly, ” he said.

Earlier at a council meeting, Rozali expressed regret that none of the 24 MBSP councillors had received their Covid-19 vaccine yet.

“I hope they will be given equal priority with other frontliners as they too face people and help them on a daily basis, ” said Rozali.

A total of 728 out of 3,186 frontline council staff members have registered for the vaccination.

“From that number, 391 council staff have received their jabs at vaccination centres throughout the mainland.”
