A SUNKEN stretch of road in Tanjung Bungah, Penang, has been repaired by the Public Works Department (JKR).

The short stretch at Jalan Tanjung Tokong was believed to have sunk overnight due to a storm on Friday night.

The incident caught motorists by surprise.

Tanjung Bungah assemblyman Zairil Khir Johari said he was alerted about the matter on Saturday.

“It is part of a federal roadleading to Batu Ferringhi.

“The sunken section had to be closed for repair and re-tarring.

“JKR workers were able to complete the work in a few hours by Saturday noon.

“We don’t know what exactly caused the road to sink.

“The cause could be the storm or the presence of a manhole nearby.

“We are investigating the incident, ” said Zairil.
