A STORM wreaked havoc in several areas in Bertam and Pinang Tunggal on mainland Penang.

It uprooted trees and blew down tents belonging to about 30 street vendors as well as damaged 18 houses in two villages in Paya Keladi.

Luckily, nobody was reported injured during the 4.30pm incident on Thursday.

Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman said his service team members were still assessing the losses which could reach thousands of ringgit.

The Pinang Tunggal assemblyman and his team members also visited the storm victims.

“We gave immediate cash aid to the street vendors in Bertam to help them cover their losses.

“For the 18 families whose houses were damaged in the storm, we gave funds through Penang State Disaster Fund.

“We also gave about RM300 to RM400 to each family through my state constituency fund, ” he said.
