Women leaders featured in campaign’s video series

Jamaliah, Wong and other women involved in the Wanita Memimpin campaign, including representatives from NGOs as well as associations, at the launch in Damansara Jaya.

IN CONJUNCTION with International Women’s Day 2021, the Bandar Utama assemblyman’s service centre is hosting a “Wanita Memimpin” (Women Lead) campaign.

The campaign will see a series of interviews with women who are serving the community, from the grassroots at non-governmental organisations to MPs.

Bandar Utama assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the theme was “Choose to Challenge”.

“We chose this theme to focus on women’s leadership as we are all aware that women play an important role not only in family matters, but also leading communities and the country, ” she said at the launch of the campaign in Damansara Jaya.

The campaign, which runs until the end of March, will see collaboration among organisations and associations as well as Balakong assemblyman Wong Siew Ki and Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh, who will be featured in interviews over nine videos along with others serving the community.

“Each of them should be appreciated, which is why we have interviews with women from various backgrounds, including councillors, youth leaders, ‘pusat wanita berdaya’ committee members, NGOs, village heads, sportswomen and residents association members, ” said Jamaliah.

“Our special interview with Yeoh explores her childhood and life to show that many are from regular backgrounds and chose to be leaders in the community, ” she added.

Wong, who was also at the launch, said the campaign was a meaningful one, elaborating “If we don’t have this series of videos, we may overlook many individuals who serve in our community.

“I hope that the series will inspire others.”
