Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) brought some festive cheer to selected underprivileged families by distributing poon choy (festive meal in a pot) in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

In lieu of organising a celebration during the movement control order period, MBSJ had the poon choy sent through food delivery riders to B40 families living within the city council’s administrative area.

Subang Jaya mayor Noraini Roslan, deputy mayor and secretary Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali and Subang MP Wong Chen flagged off the delivery riders at Arena MBSJ on Chap Goh Meh, the last day of Chinese New Year.

Also present were MBSJ councillors Lee Jen Uyin, Thomas Low Yew Sin, George Yap Kok Weng and Mehanathan Embamurthi.

“A total of 100 pots of poon choy were presented to B40 families identified by MBSJ councillors within their respective zones, ” said MBSJ Corporate and Strategic Management Department deputy director Azfarizal Abdul Rashid in a statement.

“Poon choy is a traditional Chinese dish that features many ingredients in a single pot.

“It symbolises prosperity and well-being to be enjoyed by the whole family.”

In addition to poon choy valued at RM200 per unit, he said MBSJ also gave an ang pow of RM68 to each recipient.
