STARTING this month, Malaysians with Pas Mutiara My30 cards will be able to enjoy free bus rides on all Rapid Penang buses throughout the state.
State infrastructure and transportation committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the unlimited bus rides would be available until Dec 31 this year for eligible commuters who purchased Pas Mutiara My30 cards from Rapid Penang kiosks at a cost of RM10.
“This initiative will enable commuters to enjoy the bus service by Rapid Penang to ease their burden during the Covid-19 pandemic, ” he said in a statement.
The state government allocated a sum of RM300,000 for 10,000 commuters every month, bringing the overall total to RM3mil by year end.
He said the state government was more than happy to bear the cost and hoped that the initiative would attract more Penangites to grab the opportunity to use public transportation.
Zairil also thanked the Federal Government for expanding the unlimited travel pass (Pas Mutiara My30) to Penang starting January this year during Budget 2021.
He added that the initiative would enable commuters to save their daily expenses on car petrol as well as parking and toll fees.
After being widely used in the Klang Valley and Selangor, the My30 unlimited travel pass was expanded to include Rapid Penang and Rapid Kuantan bus networks starting Jan 1.
Users can buy the pass at eight kiosks of Rapid Penang — Rapid Penang headquarters at Lorong Kulit; bus terminals at Weld Quay (Terminal B), Komtar, Balik Pulau and Bukit Mertajam; as well as bus hubs at Bukit Jambul, Datuk Kailan Kepala Batas complex and Penang Sentral (Level 1).
