PENGERANG Municipal Council (MPP) is helping 200 single mothers in the municipality through a food aid distribution programme.
MPP president Fizwan Mohd Rashidi said the single mothers were from four sub-districts in Pengerang, namely Penawar, Tanjung Surat, Johor Lama and Sedili.
“Each recipient received food aid worth RM50 as well as RM100 in cash as part of our corporate social responsibility programme to help people in Pengerang affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We hope this will ease their burden, ” he said, adding that the aid was given out from Feb 10 to 18.
Fizwan said the programme was jointly organised by MPP councillors and state assemblymen Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zin (Penawar), Datuk Syed Sis Syed A. Rahman (Tanjung Surat), Rosleli Jahari (Johor Lama) and Rasman Ithnain (Sedili).
Fizwan added that since the movement control order was enforced last year, food aid had been distributed to orphans, the elderly and poor families in Pengerang.
Meanwhile, MPP councillor Ghazali Abas said food distribution was carried out in Kampung Teluk Empang, Kampung Sungai Buntu, Kampung Teluk Ramunia, Kampung Baru Teluk Ramunia, Kampung Lepau and Kampung Ghani Othman.
“Aside from the food basket, we handed over items such as rice cooker, table fan and blender to single mothers and others in need.
“The majority of them are self-employed and have lost their source of income since the MCO started, ” he said. — By REMAR NORDIN
