Chap Goh Meh live stream show to raise funds for local musicians

Persatuan Pemuzik Tempatan Malaysia’s Chap Goh Meh virtual show on Feb 26 is supported by MagnumCares.

PERSATUAN Pemuzik Tempatan Malaysia (PPTS) will showcase a live stream performance for Chap Goh Meh to raise funds for local musicians.

The virtual event, with the support of MagnumCares, will be aired via the association’s and the organiser’s Musicians for Musicians (MFM) Facebook page and YouTube channel at 9pm on Feb 26.

The show will be hosted by comedian Douglas Lim and will feature Datuk Leonard Tan, WVC featuring Janet Lee, MDT Band, DB Sound Band, Super 4+1, Professional Cultural Centre Orchestra (PCCO), Dr Goh Chia-Chien as special guest and Persatuan Tarian Naga dan Singa Khuan Loke.

This is PPTS’ immediate plan to focus on helping local musicians who have lost their source of income since the Covid-19 pandemic hit last year. Some of them have even lost their homes.

Aside from the effects of the pandemic, many of the local musicians are suffering from illnesses and age-related ailments.

PPTS deputy president Edwin Nathaniel said bank account details where people could make their donation would be revealed during the live show.

“The funds we receive will be used to continue our efforts to organise live stream shows and pay musicians to perform.

“It is not much, but the musicians miss performing and the pandemic has taken a toll on their livelihoods.

“We will have about 30 musicians of different races performing for the Chap Goh Meh show, ” said Edwin.

The first live stream show that PPTS did last year was for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, followed by Deepavali.

“We did not have proper funding or budget at that time.

“But during Christmas, we ran a show for two days and managed to get sponsors.

“This Chinese New Year, MagnumCares is helping us with the production cost, ” he added.
