A total of 350 people in Ayer Baloi and Pekan Nanas in Pontian have received assistance given out by the Johor Sultan as part of his weekly aid distribution to help the less fortunate in different parts of the state.
The boxes containing essential food items and personal contributions from Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar were distributed by Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation coordinator Mejar Cina Datuk David Wong at SJK(C) Chien Hwa, SJK(C) Yu Ming 1 and SJK(C) Yu Ming 2.
“The recipients of the items included those from poor families, senior citizens, the disabled and students in the Ayer Baloi and Pekan Nanas areas, ” said a statement posted on Sultan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page.
Before Chinese New Year, the foundation also made contributions to 283 students at SJK(C) Foon Yew 3, SJK(C) Pei Chih and SJK(C) Tiram in Johor Baru.
The aid was also distributed to another 96 students in SJK(C) Johor Jaya, SJK(C) Foon Yew 2 and SJK(C) Pei Hwa in conjunction with the festive season, said the statement.
“The foundation has distributed a total of 16,031 boxes of essential items, including rice, cooking oil, biscuits and noodles, to the needy in all 10 districts of Johor since April last year.
“Aid is still being distributed continuously in efforts to help lessen the people’s burden as many were affected by the pandemic, ” the statement added.
Meanwhile, SJK(C) Yu Ming 1 headmaster Lim Peck Chin, who represented the pupils and their parents at the aid handover ceremony, expressed her appreciation towards the Johor ruler.
“We thank him for his concern about the people’s welfare, regardless of race, religion and background.
“I am sure that the assistance given is very valuable to the families, especially those whose parents are facing financial difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic, ” she said.
