WORK is underway on a 152.4m by 6.4m mural at Columbia Asia Hospital Tebrau in Johor Baru to commemorate the country’s fight against Covid-19.
The hospital’s regional general manager Rahani Yaacob said the campaign, an initiative by Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, was to pay tribute to frontliners in breaking the Covid-19 chain of infection.
She said the campaign was spread across five zones nationwide and the hospital was delighted to be part of the initiative, representing the southern zone.
The mural also aims to raise awareness of Covid-19 standard operating procedures by Health Ministry.
The two talented Johor artists tasked with painting the mural are Iskandar Noor Rahim, or Akeem as he is widely known, and Muhamad Razali Abd Aziz, also known as Trusk Ali.
They were selected by the National Art Gallery, an agency under the Tourism ministry.
“They aim to not only capture the devastating impact of the virus but also show hope in the country’s fight against the pandemic, ” Rahani said in a statement.
She said painting of the mural kicked off on Jan 26 and was expected to be completed by today.
The completed mural will be unveiled by the Tourism ministry at a later date. — By YEE XIANG YUN
