CNY celebrations in Sibu to forgo lion dance tradition

One of Sibu Great United Club’s lion dance troupes after a Chinese New Year performance last year. Lion dance troupes in Sibu have had to cancel bookings for this year’s Lunar New Year due to the MCO.

THE Chinese New Year celebration for Sibu Division will be a muted affair as lion dance performances are prohibited due to the movement control order.

The spring festival falls on Feb 12 this year, but with the division still under MCO until Feb 14, this will be the first time that the lion dance – one of the most important traditions in the celebration – will be missing.
