S'gor govt launches free employment programme with 10,000 job opportunities

SELANGOR government has launched a free programme to boost employment of its people due to the pandemic-hit economy.

The state has allocated RM58mil for the Selangor Career (Selangor Kerjaya) programme, which is set to provide up to 10,000 job opportunities for Selangor dwellers, that would complement the skills required for employment, via profiling, upskilling and job placements in the next three years.

At the virtual launch, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government has projected 2,000 job opportunities for those who have lost their jobs, new university graduates, and secondary school leavers, including those with vocational training.

“Successful candidates will undergo online training with the employer for a year to hone talent and skills, which includes a mentor-mentee programme to ensure that all employees fit well into the positions.

“This is a win-win situation for the people, employers and state government, ” he said.

Selangor contributed 24.2% to the country's gross domestic product in 2019, which was a 23.7% increase from 2018, he said, and that the state played an important role in generating economic growth as well as a strategic role in boosting it towards a digital economy and high-value industries.

Among other efforts, he explained that the state was looking into providing a workforce for the aerospace industry, a high-value industry whereby 60% of the income was contributed by companies based in the state.

“The state will develop an integrated workforce database including a career skills framework to ensure adequate training was provided to support the aerospace industry.

“This is to ensure the aerospace industry remains and continues to develop in the state, attracting other high industry investors which would bring more high skills job opportunities, thus creating a high-income society, ” he said.

Those interested to register for the programme can do so at www.selangorkerjaya.com.my. Employers interested in recruitment can also register.
