The food packets bundled in plastic bags meant for residents in the B40 group.
THERE were smiling faces all around when more than 200 people received food packets from Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Chow presented the food packets at the Kawan Centre in Lebuh Klang, George Town, in an event co-organised by the Lebuh Chulia Village Community Management Council (MPKK) and Kawan Centre.
Lebuh Chulia MPKK chairperson Lily Oh said the food distribution was made possible thanks to four donors who sponsored the meals.
“This a special day for us as the programme is carried out by Kawan Centre every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and we have joined in, especially to help the B40 group, ” said Oh at the centre on Monday.
Chow commended their collaborative efforts and recorded his appreciation to the Lebuh Chulia MPKK for starting off 2021 with a noble effort by giving out the food packets.
“This is one of the many projects undertaken by the MPKK of this area and they have been active during the pandemic, including giving out face masks within Lebuh Chulia.”
Kawan Centre manager Ben Chong said their drop-in centre usually gives out over 200 food packets on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
He said the food comprised rice with curry chicken or fish, egg and vegetables.
“We also handed out 250 packets during Christmas, ” added Chong.
