A mix of old and new to be appointed as MPK councillors

NINE new councillors will be sworn in Friday (Jan 8) at the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) for the 2021-2022 term along with old faces and three others who are making a comeback after two terms.

New faces in the council are PKR members Mahendran Marimuthu, Prabu Munusamy and Mohd Nazar Sulaiman along with Dr Quah Perng Fei, Francis Gan Eu Eng, Low Kwee Sia, Abd Halid Ka’ab and Ang Kian Wah from DAP.

Amanah has one new representative Abdul Mutalib Adam.

PKR members who were returning are Yew Boon Lye, Athi Saravanan S. Rengiah and Rosnee Talib.

Boon Lye, who had been a councillor in 2009, said he was glad to be back and would focus on improving basic amenities in neighbourhoods.

Meanwhile, Athi and Rosnee said this time they would strive to ensure zero potholes along council roads besides cleanliness.

Councillors who have been reappointed are Selangor Palace representative Datuk Setia DiRaja Datuk Abdul Ghani Pateh Akhir, PKR appointees – Megat Shariffudin Shaharuddin and Mathuraiveeran Marimuthu.

DAP members who have been retained are Nalan M. Muniandy, Denesh Raja Rajaratnam, Chia Siu, Puspavali Mahalinggam, Barry Ng Seng Nam along with Amanah’s Abdul Razak Abdul

Meanwhile, two other councillor’s PKR’s Go Boon Pok and DAP’s Lee Fu Haw who were appointed in 2020, will continue their terms.

Council president Dr. Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin thanked outgoing councillors for their service.

“We have a fresh batch of councillors who have been appointed based on their political affiliation. I hope the nine new councillors, the three who have made a come back and even those who have been reappointed will serve the community.

“Our council wants all councillors to increase integrity in local public dealings, improve service delivery, strengthen trust in the council’s engagement with the people, ” said Fadzli.
