Hill train service to shut down for 12 days in March

THE Penang Hill funicular train service will be shut down for 12 days from March 1 to 12 next year instead of the initial announcement of Jan 11 to 22.

Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) said in a statement that the shutdown was mainly for convenience and better efficiency to synchronise its first bi-annual funicular maintenance session.

Among the plans are roof replacement and other construction work at the Upper Station platforms.

“Train service will resume on March 13.

“During the shutdown period, visitors may opt for jeep services operated by the Penang Hill Residents Association or use existing hiking routes to reach the Penang Hill summit.

“PHC would like to thank all visitors for their patience and continuous support, ” the statement said.

For more details, call 019-572 0543 (jeep services) and 04-828 8880 (PHC).
