RESIDENTS’ representatives of flats in Desa Mentari, Petaling Jaya were briefed on ways to ensure a safe environment as the fight against the spread of Covid-19 continues.
MyPJ — a community organisation in Petaling Jaya that is working towards a better living environment — collaborated with Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) to organise the event.
The briefing was followed by the handover of 1,000 sanitary kits comprising three face masks and a bottle of hand sanitiser, to be distributed to Desa Mentari residents.
A total of 30 representatives attended the event which was held at the community activity centre.
MyPJ chairman Jeffrey Phang said Desa Mentari was chosen as it was a densely populated area with B40 residents.
“Many of the residents are daily wage earners who have lost their jobs and income.
“The donation of face masks and hand sanitiser will provide some relief to residents who are finding it difficult to cope with
the expenses involved in new hygiene practices.
“Many residents here live in cramped living spaces. We wanted to create awareness of ways they could continue to protect themselves and prevent the formation of a Covid-19 cluster, ” he said.
Also present were MRCS secretary-general Hakim Hamzah, Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal and Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation Selangor chairman Datuk Mohammad Fuad Talib.
