Hong Leong Foundation has doubled the number of scholarships awarded under its Merit Scholarship Programme this year.
The foundation has been empowering students of all backgrounds and abilities via the programme since 1997.
This year, 66 students received scholarship awards totalling RM3.5mil to pursue higher education in a field of their choice.
Hong Leong Foundation executive director Quek Sue Yian said anyone was welcome to apply for the education, vocational or skills programmes under this pillar.
“The Hong Leong Foundation Merit Scholarship, like all our other educational programmes, are awarded with inclusivity in mind to provide students the chance and freedom to pursue, grow or support their education in any courses from higher education institutions to vocational programmes and skills certificates.
“It is especially crucial this year as the Covid-19 pandemic has greatly impacted our socioeconomic well-being and some groups in the community have been hit the hardest.
“Thus, the foundation has increased the number of scholarship recipients this year to provide more financial aid during these difficult times, ” added Quek.
To date, the foundation has awarded scholarships totalling RM40.6mil to 1,111 students.
