AN innovative cross-border e-commerce platform — the International Inspirasi Khadijah Virtual 2020 — will be held from Dec 18 to 20 this year.
Featuring at least 80 e-exhibitors, the virtual platform is aimed at supporting the development of entrepreneurs by connecting and matching businesses through the cross-border e-commerce platform.
Penang Halal International Sdn Bhd (PHI) chief executive officer Aida Lim Abdullah said the platform would comprise various companies and industry players globally.
“There will be a showcase of quality products and services ranging from food and beverages to organic products, health and beauty, fashion, tourism, hospitality and logistics.
“The live virtual platform will take place from Dec 18 to 20 but the event will be online for a month until Jan 18 next year.
“During the event, there will be a virtual lobby, virtual booths and virtual halls where visitors can virtually visit to browse the products.
“It is a 24-hour virtual event which does not stop.
“With physical conferences and expositions, halls need to close but in this virtual event, visitors can keep coming in regardless of time, ” she said during the soft launch of the event in Komtar on Wednesday.
Aida said in the three weeks leading up to the event, merchants and businesses are welcome to join as exhibitors or sellers in the event.
“The official launch of the event will be on Dec 19, to be attended by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, several VIPs and exclusive companies who are e-exhibitors of the event.”
State trade and industry, and entrepreneurial development committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain, who was present, said the virtual expo was a bold event and an opportunity for all merchants to embark on e-commerce.
“Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the annual Penang International Halal Expo and Conference was cancelled and the event is hereby replaced by this virtual event.
“In a time facing the Covid-19 pandemic, businesses need to quickly embark on e-commerce to not lose out.
“We hope that all merchants, especially those in Penang can grab the opportunity to go global and promote products from Penang, ” he said.
The event is an initiative by PHI with support of the state government.
