WITH Christmas around the corner, malls are going all out to offer sales and promotions to make the people feel the festive atmosphere despite the current trying times.
At Gurney Paragon Mall, Penang, the mall adopted the theme to help those in need, to show support for local talents and to help a charitable home, all while offering shoppers great deals.
According to its head of marketing and communication Jasmine Tai, the stores at the mall are offering great promotions and shoppers can also look forward to a Christmas market at the mall.
“The theme this year is Season of Giving and we would like to bring cheer to everyone including the underprivileged children and shoppers.
“With the Covid-19 outbreak and conditional movement control order (MCO) this year, we understand that things have to be different.
“We will be having a Christmas market from Dec 18 to Dec 20 and then from Christmas Day to Dec 27.
“The market will feature about 20 stalls, featuring local businesses, ” she said.
Tai said the mall will have a ‘Joy of Giving’ campaign, where with a minimum of RM10 donation, shoppers can walk away with products and vouchers from many reputed brands and outlets at the mall.
“The proceeds from the donations will be channelled to the Children’s Protection Society.
“We will have a Christmas eve countdown as well as a New Year’s eve countdown at our festive square, ” she added.
Over at Gurney Plaza and its plans for Christmas and New Year celebrations this year, centre manager Peter Chan said the festivities would be celebrated in a different way this year.
“We want to create a festive ambience for our shoppers but the mall’s promotions and sales for Christmas and the year end would depend on whether the conditional MCO is lifted on Dec 6.
“We have various perks and attractive gifts for redemption to reward shoppers.
“There are food and beverage voucher giveaways and a ‘Shop, Spend and Win’ shopping contest in December to celebrate Christmas.
“In light of the pandemic, we will have a Christmas booth offering Christmas limited-edition face masks at our atrium, ” he said.
Meanwhile, a check at several malls in Penang saw shoppers enjoying the Christmas sales at the outlets offering marked down prices and discounts.
Shopper Dr Sarah Law, 31, was seen checking out promotions at a body care outlet.
“I do not celebrate Christmas but I do visit malls to check out their year-end deals.
“It is always a good time to shop, especially for body care.
“Things are generally cheaper at the end of the year and there are usually extra promotions.
“There tends to be limited-edition items launched during this time of the year, like Christmas-themed and scented things, ” she said.
