MBPJ confirms no high-rise plan for Section 5’s vacant land

The empty land in Taman Petaling is now cleared.

A PIECE of land in Taman Petaling, Petaling Jaya left idle has now been cleared by the landowner.

Consequently, visitors to the area are wondering if a high-rise development will take place there.

Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohd Sayuthi Bakar stated that there was no development approved for that plot of land in Jalan 5/51, Section 5.

“I was informed that the land was cleared to ensure it looked clean and tidy, ” he said.

Section 5 Residents Association chairman Ben Thompson said that when a restaurant at the edge of the land ceased operation and the makeshift building emptied out in January, residents speculated that a condominium would be built there.

Area councillor Derek Fernandez also confirmed that no development was approved and no one had sent in any such application.

“Based on the Petaling Jaya Local Draft Plan, the area was rezoned for low-density development, like a three-storey building perhaps, ” said Thompson.
