ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Johor Budget 2021, which is expected to be tabled next month, will provide allocations to help those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, especially frontliners.
Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad said an allocation would be provided by the state government to help the people and frontliners in Johor.
“Our focus is on those affected by Covid-19 and frontliners involved in the fight against the pandemic.
“I believe that Johor will mirror the Federal Government’s budget, ” said Hasni after the launch of the Johor Human Capital Strategy Initiative and the Johor Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) handbook in Kota Iskandar here.
“The Johor government wants to provide a large allocation but we have to be mindful that the state needs to have a healthy fiscal position in our efforts to manage the budget every year.
“As much as we want to spend more on the people, we still have to make sure that our fiscal position remains healthy. This must be the principle of our budget, ” he said, adding that they must work within their means.
In another development, Hasni said the Johor Economic, Tourism and Culture Office (Jetco) in Singapore, which had received approval from the Federal Government to be established, would commence operations in the first quarter of next year.
He was reported to have said that Jetco would be active in bringing in investment as well as promoting tourism and cultural sectors between Johor and Singapore.
The establishment of Jetco is one of seven initiatives announced in June to help raise investors’ confidence in Johor.
The others include the establishment of Ibrahim Johor Economic Council, Johor Digital Masterplan, Singapore-Johor-Riau Growth Triangle Development, the New Economic Alignment, Johor Food Bank and the Johor Sustainable Development Plan 2019-2030.
